Key Facts

Project

On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the firm Schlaich, Bergermann und Partner (lead) and ISA Int. Stadtbauatelier worked on the research topic “Living and Working under the Climate Envelope” in a research consortium.

The objective is to research and develop an innovative and ecological design concept, particularly for commercial uses under large-scale climate envelopes.

The climate envelope as a new overarching organizational form for commercial areas offers a holistic solution approach for the previously uninspired and resource-wasting commercial areas that destroy the landscape. Instead of many individual buildings, a large, shared transparent envelope is used. It offers a better appearance and reduces land requirements by up to 35%. Through its flexible use, the envelope can adapt to changing requirements and simultaneously serves as an effective advertising effect through a distinctive address.
