The lighting concept in Ellwangen contributes to creating an atmospheric ambiance in the pedestrian zone. At night, the unique features of Spital-/ and Marienstraße, as well as the hierarchy of urban spaces and squares, are effectively showcased. To emphasize the town squares “Am Fuchseck” and “Am Palais Adelmann,” the adjacent areas were designed to be correspondingly darker. The illumination of the hill with the Basilica as the historical heart of the city, as well as the ring roads and radial streets leading to the hill, was therefore implemented with decreasing light intensity. Urbanistically significant areas, such as city entrances, are staged as orientation points through lighting. Through the targeted variation of light intensity and mood, transitions, thresholds, and entrances are highlighted.
