Project
The restoration of the historic city center presents the task of redesigning numerous squares and reexamining the historic characteristics of these spaces from new perspectives. From an urban planning standpoint, the City of Esslingen am Neckar therefore places increased emphasis on reactivating and appropriately designing the social quality that squares and streets can offer. In this design process, it is particularly important not to shape individual spatial elements in isolation, but rather to connect them as part of a network and develop them into a comprehensive system of streets, squares, and city entrances. This design is based on the historic city layout, which is interpreted in a modern design language. The master plan provides the necessary foundation for the planning and implementation of individual construction phases.
